I am looking at Drupal for a project and was wondering if any of you who pass this way have any experience of it and what your views of it are?

Neil and I have been working with Drupal for the better part of a year after our install of it for the Dennis Publishing corporate intranet. It has its good bits and clunky bits. I did most of the CSS interface tweaks and Neil did the programming. He has a pretty good understanding of Drupal and got accepted into the dev pool for the opensource as a contributor.
Drupal runs dual CSS files, one for the core and one for the theme. This can be a pain and a blessing.
Perhaps one of the most gorgeous installs of Drupal is by Hogbay Software. (hogbaysoftware.com) It is stunning and truly atypical of what we’ve seen done with Drupal.
