Darkest Before Dawn

We got back yesterday from the L4 L-Word convention at the Thistle Hotel at Heathrow airport. This was the second event that we have attended the first was in Blackpool Details of the show at the link above.

The guests for this event were originally Sarah Shahi, Laurel Holloman, Rachel Shelley and Anne Ramsay. Sarah Shahi and Laurel Holloman had to withdraw from the event in the weeks before and were replace by Lauren Lee Smith and Guinevere Turner

The event at Heathrow is a lot smaller than the Blackpool event held in November, which was good as the guests seemed more relaxed and mingled for quite a while with the fans at the parties in the evenings.

Rachel Shelley as the home star was the main draw for most people, judging form the attendance at the Q&A. Rachel came across as funny and down to earth and seemed to have a great time dancing with the guests on the last night.

Anne Ramsay said at the opening ceremony that the audience could ask her “anything” they did and all credit to her she gave answers. Anne was funny and spoke a lot about her career, both Louise and I thought she was awesome in Mad about you

Lauren Lee Smith was kind and sweet. Lauren spent ages in the foyer on Saturday night talking to fans and made Louise’s weekend at the Q&A on Sunday “Aww” Clair, Lauren’s “Super Fan” was great as she not only had a list of questions of her own that she asked when others were not waiting she asked several for people who were too nervous to do it themselves. I did ask Lauren a question and I could feel an attack of stage fright coming on but I held it together.

Guinevere Turner was suffering from jet lag on the first full day of the event but on the second day did a good Q&A with Rachel Shelly on Sunday.

“Waves” to all those we spoke to and hung around with over the weekend, hope you are caught up with your sleep and the hangovers were not too bad.

I now have two signed programmes from the two events and I have decided that I will auction them for charity on ebay at some point in the future. I think three signed programmes might be a bigger draw and we are thinking about going to the L5 event in November but are not sure yet. The only guest announced so far is Jennifer Beals.

On our wish list for other guests would be Mia Kirshner which seems unlikely and Pam Grier
