Spring Cleaning

April 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Okay it is time for me to “Spring Clean” my life again. I have too much clutter in my life, too much junk kicking about that I will never use again and hold on to for no good reason.

In the last two weeks I have fallen off my diet quite severely so I need to get that back on track with a couple of days on fruit and veg and general detoxing, oh and some exercise! I also need to start my training for the 10K races that I run at the end of May.

Today I took my car to get the brakes and passenger side wing mirror fixed and that is all going to cost around £668  the “joys” of owning a car.

This must stop

April 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

It has been going on for far too long now and it must be stopped. There seems to be a blind spot that is missed constantly and no one seems to care. It is not as if it hasn’t been discussed but there is never any action on this matter and the suffering just goes on and on. If it takes a committee or even community action to stop it then these actions must be undertaken before it is too late. Some may suggest that the time to act has already passed and that all we can to is accept the “Status Quo” but apathy is acceptance and we must fight back. Government as usual seem deaf to the pleas about these happenings and possibly encourages it for their own ends.

Something must be done to stop this, more information here

The Never Ending Quest(s)

March 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

In my never ending quest to get fit and loose weight I have bought a rowing machine, to those following my Tweets on Twitter this will be old news. My main piece of advice to anyone considering buying a rowing machine is, get it delivered or at least take someone along to the shop with you to give you a hand to get it to your car. The workout I got from carrying the box from Argos in the Silverburn centre to my car in the multi-story car park was enough to last me a week.

I have enjoyed using the machine so far, it was one of the pieces of equipment that I grew to like when I used to go to a gym. I am easing in to using it as I know the downfall of the temptation to do to much and end up sore for days.
I have also been doing some work with the weights I have. The progress towards my target weight loss is currently standing at 5.7% and I hope to improve a bit on that in the next few weeks.

My other seemingly never ending quest is to find an active function for my rickis.net domain. My latest idea is a Drupal/Unix/Linux/Open Source information site. I sort of started down this route last year but I didn’t have any content, surprise, surprise! However I have since built up some notes and example that might be helpful to someone, if only me when I forget stuff. I am hoping to go live next week but that will depend on pressures from work.

A Sunday walk and a little bit of local history

February 17th, 2008 · Comments Off

It was a nice dry day today and I was able to get out for a 11km walk. My feet a a little sore but that will improve as I get more exercise. There is a map of the route I walked at the bottom of this post. On the walk I sent a few tweets to my twitter page

The photo below is from the top of the hill in Bellahouston Park. It is the remains of the foundations of the Tower of Empire which was build for the Empire Exhibition, Scotland 1938. A picture of the tower is here and a TV news clip about a virtual reality reconstruction of the Exhibition can be viewed here.

The tower which was also know as the Tait Tower after its designer was demolish in July 1939, more information at the link.
