Innocent Eyes

When I saw the world through innocent eyes.
I saw without hate, without despise.
I only saw truth; I did not see lies.
When I saw the world through innocent eyes.

Then I saw the world through blinkered eyes.
I learned to hate and to despise.
I saw only truth that suited myself.
I saw only lies from everywhere else.

Now I see the world through wiser eyes.
I try not to hate or to despise.
I see the world is made from truth and lies.
I wish again to see the world through innocent eyes.

The Poetry Spiv

Psst…
Do you want to buy some poetry.
I sell it by the line.
It’s not all that difficult.
Just give a topic and some time.

It really is quite simple.
Computers do it now.
Just tell them how to place.
The verb, the noun, the vowel.

What about inspiration?
I hear you all exclaim.
Do you want it in rhyming verse?
Or in awkward plain?

I’ll write poetry about nature.
Frogspawn and other stuff.
Then pretend it’s allegorical.
As if it’s not enough.

I’ll hide you from the truth.
No gas and guns for me.
I only want to please you.
I have no interest in being free.

No hint of satire will I give you.
That’s really not my scene.
My lines are automatic.
One hundred percent biologically clean.
